Bed and Breakfast On the Hill

Here at Mynd House you’ll experience the glorious Shropshire Hills first hand in a unique and atmospheric setting. Our Edwardian villa nestles among the hills, in an area renowned for its natural beauty. The landscape is picturesque and dramatic.

In 1902 a bachelor department store owner from Wolverhampton, who had an interest in geology, built a country retreat. The house was originally called “Fernhill” and was later renamed Mynd House. The RAF requisitioned the house in 1938 and subsequently returned it to civilian use in 1947. It was re-opened as a boarding house for the many walkers visiting “Little Switzerland”.

In 1978 the original house was extended to provide fifteen letting rooms. In 1987 it was reconfigured and now offers eight exceptionally spacious and immaculately maintained rooms - five double, two twin and a single room.

For our guests, we have a private honesty bar and a double-sized lounge for your comfort, with free on-site parking, and great pubs just a short walk away. There are also two outdoor seating areas. Responsible pet owners are welcome to bring their dogs to stay with them in the Minton Room, a large twin or double room with outstanding views of two peaks, Ragleth Hill and Caer Caradoc.

Visitors have the added bonus of a secure storage room for boots and bicycles (with hanging space for wet clothes), accessed from the car park.

The Wi-fi at Mynd House is excellent, making it easy to combine business with pleasure!

We are located in the pretty village of Little Stretton, just a short walk away from Church Stretton. In the local area, there are ample opportunities to hike, cycle, mountain bike, horse ride, play golf- and much more.

If you’re looking for adventure, taste the adrenaline rush of gliding or paragliding over the Long Mynd, assisted by the UK’s best thermals! We are a short drive from the World Heritage site of the Ironbridge Gorge and the historic market towns of Ludlow, Shrewsbury and Much Wenlock.

About us!

Mynd House is owned and run by Liz and Jeff Main, who share a passion for professional hospitality. They took over in August 2017 and aim to provide a high standard of cleanliness and comfort for guests, in a relaxed, friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Liz originates from Shropshire but has worked and travelled all over the world. Jeff, originally from Canada, feels very much at home in the Shropshire Hills. He has taken his creative talents into the kitchen, where you’ll find him rustling up delicious breakfasts and packed lunches!

Liz and Jeff aim to make a real difference so that all their guests have an enjoyable and memorable break. They are committed to continuous improvement of their visitors’ experience and welcome feedback on all aspects of their services.

Excellent guest house in a stunning location! We had a wonderful stay at Mynd House. The hosts were fantastic, the communal areas were beautiful and the room was very comfortable and well appointed. The breakfasts were amazing (possibly the best Eggs Benedict we've ever had!) and the honesty bar in the evening was a very nice touch and well stocked. The local area is utterly stunning (you can see why it's colloquially known as 'Little Switzerland') and both of the pubs in little Stretton are fab. Strongly recommend the guest house!

Just lovely! I have just spent two nights at Mynd House and it was just lovely... the ground floor room had its own parking space right outside the door into the room which was perfect. The room itself was spacious, clean and very comfortable. WiFi speed was fast. Breakfast was plentiful, with good variety and great for vegetarians as well as meat eaters. Thoroughly recommended.

Wonderfully relaxing place to stay. After a friendly welcome I settled in and went to a great little independent pub. Then back to relax in the large living area with wonderful views of the surrounding hills. The breakfast was delicious and served by a great young man. We shared wordle advice. It was once again a perfect stay with very welcoming hosts. It was a excellent breakfast with plenty of choice, very comfortable and clean room, all staff were very pleasant, it's nice to be able to have a drink in the honesty bar before going for meals at the two pubs which are within walking distance and serving great food. Also good walks from the door, all in all the perfect place and location.

Friendly and comfortable guest house on the edge of the Long Mynd. Great hospitality from owners. My room was very comfortable with all necessary facilities whilst the quality of the breakfast was great. Overall it was value for money with the added bonus of having two great pubs within a 5 min walking distance. I hope to visit again soon.

Our walking group took over the whole property for the second year for our annual Shropshire walking break. All rooms are perfection with wonderful breakfasts. It has a house party vibe due to the 3 inter-connecting lounges, blazing log fire and a very well stocked honesty bar. Liz is a wonderful hostess.

Great B&B. This is a B&B with high standards! Lovely warm, clean house, comfortable bed, good shower and delicious breakfast. Thanks to Liz's directions we had two super days' walking up the Long Mynd and Caer Caradoc. With two pubs a few minutes walk away it was easy to eat well in the evenings too.

A great B&B in an ideal location for walking in the Shropshire Hills and sightseeing. B&B comfortable with friendly hosts and staff. Plenty of options available to accommodate all dietary requirements at breakfast. Sufficient car parking space for all guests. It was not necessary to use car to access a variety of walking routes in the Shropshire Hills. Lunch and evening meals available at the two pubs in the village. Booking recommended. Hosts sustainability efforts to be commended.

A very welcoming B&B. Our room was clean and spacious with great views of the hills. The quality of the breakfasts with a nice touch where the various local suppliers of breakfast ingredients were credited on the menu. Liz was a very welcoming host and nothing was too much trouble. 2 local village pubs within a few minutes walk.
